Yamaha RX-V467 Esoteric Minimalism Multimedia Player

This step-up version of the Yamaha entry-level RX-V367, adding Blu-ray HD audio decoding, more connections and a few other goodies to the list of features. There are six models above Yamaha’s 2010 range the RX-V567, V667, V767, V1067, V2067 and V3067 but about £ 300, the RX-V467 is ideal for those who want an affordable platform Audio to go with their Blu-ray deck, but need not necessarily all the bells and whistles.

As usual there is a choice of black and silver finishes, and both are very attractive. But do not approach it expecting it, or esoteric minimalism austere elegance the facade of the sample black is a straight up tech-fest with an LED backlight, equity exposure, buttons scattered all over the place and volume knob on the right side whacking great.

The buttons include controls for the radio tuner, input selection and four buttons linked to Yamaha Stage practical function. These works, such as macros, turning on the receiver and a connected component, selecting the right mode and start playback at the touch of a button. You can program these to work with any input source and sound mode. Front-mounted socketry includes a headphone jack, component / analog stereo inputs, a mini-jack input for MP3 players and a plug for the microphone YPAO automatic calibration.

Rear connectivity is exactly what you expect at this price, covering most bases without pushing the boat. You get four HDMI inputs all V1.4 and therefore support the 3D signals and return channel audio include – and one output. As this is a 5.1 channel receiver, there are only five pairs of terminals (banana plug compatible) and a subwoofer pre-out single.

Also on the back are two sets of component video inputs, four composite video inputs, four analog stereo inputs and four digital audio inputs (two optical, two coaxial). Outputs include component video, two composite video, stereo audio and pre-outs for the rear surround channels that allow you to switch to a 7.1 channel configuration. The Yamaha RX-V467 also support an optional wireless Bluetooth receiver (YBA-10) and universal iPod dock (YDS-12 or YDS-11) a port for these is also included on the back.
